Ash Wednesday Services:
February 17: 5:15 & 7:15 pm
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent. Many people traditionally come to Mass and receive ashes on their foreheads. Ash Wednesday is not a holy day, yet this custom has great meaning for many.
Because of Covid, we have been instructed, in an effort to not touch one person’s face after another, to NOT place ashes on the forehead. Instead we will be using what is done in various parts of Europe. That is, when a person chooses to come forward – and it is optional – the priest or deacon will ‘sprinkle’ a bit of ashes over that person’s head. Yes, there will be ashes in your hair, but it will be very little.
