A year ago in the spring St. John’s had some repairs made to the school roof, chimneys and cupola. We were aware that the school bell no longer was hung in the cupola, so we asked the contractor if they would bring it down for us. They did. The bell was rusted and covered in paint & roofing spray. Since that time, we have been contemplating where and how to display the bell to honor this historic icon of St. John’s Catholic School. Between the ingenuity of Terry Murnane & Larry Birkemeier, a vision for the bell memorial was set in place. This last week it all came together.
St. John’s Catholic School bell is inscribed on the inside of the bell with the date 10-14-16, that is 1916 of course. If you check the cornerstone on the school, you will see that the building was built in 1914. There will be a plaque placed on the memorial with the date of the bell until the closing of the building as a school in 2008. Please stop by and see this historical icon of St. John’s Catholic Church and School. Thank You to Terry & Larry for a job well done good and faithful servants!
